Treasure Coast specifics · How We Work Here
Fort Lauderdale Based, Working This Coast in Blocks
We are based in Fort Lauderdale and work up the Treasure Coast in scheduled blocks. On a coast where a replacement wave draws companies in from everywhere, being clear about who we are matters more than usual.
Tell us the age of the roof and whether anything is actually leaking. Those two answers decide what conversation we are having.
2005
A whole region re-roofed in eighteen months, and it is finishing together
No leak
Most people here are replacing a roof that works. We will say so
Our crews
We inspect, we photograph, and our own people do the work
Licensed
A licensed Florida general contractor
Companies that arrived for the wave
A synchronized regional replacement wave attracts contractors from outside the area, and plenty of them are competent people doing honest work. Some are here for the wave and will not be here for the warranty. The difficulty for a homeowner is that both look identical in the driveway, both have a professional-looking folder, and the difference only becomes visible in about three years.
How a job runs with us
- A booked inspection, with somebody actually on the roof.
- Photographs of what we found, given to you either way.
- A written scope before anyone discusses a number.
- The deck replacement rate agreed before the roof is opened.
- The permit pulled with the right department for the address.
- Our own crews doing the work, in a planned block.
- Documentation left with you for whoever inspects afterwards.
Licensing, and how to check it
Romco Builders is a licensed Florida general contractor. Roofing work is performed under the appropriate trade certification, as Florida law requires.
Ask us for the license details and verify them with the state before signing anything — with us or with anyone else. On a coast where a lot of unfamiliar companies are currently working, that is a five-minute check worth making every single time.
How we handle it
- 01Inspect and report before quoting anything.
- 02Fix the variable rates in advance rather than during the work.
- 03Pull the permit as contractor of record.
- 04Give a real start date, including when the real one is a month out.
The photographs are handed over whether or not you use us, which occasionally means we have written a report that helps somebody decide not to replace their roof yet. That is a reasonable outcome. A roof we do not sell this year on a coast where the whole cohort is finishing is not a lost customer.
Said plainly
Where we stop
We are not local to this coast, we are not storm chasers either, and we cannot be at your property this afternoon. We do not perform wind mitigation inspections and we do not negotiate with insurers. If any of that is what you need, better to know now.
FAQ
Common questions
- Are you local to the Treasure Coast?
- No. We are Fort Lauderdale based and work this coast in scheduled blocks. We would rather say that than claim an office we do not have. A genuinely local company may start sooner, and that is a fair reason to use one.
- How do I check a roofing contractor properly?
- Get the license details and verify them with the state yourself rather than accepting a document. Ask how long they have been working in this area. Both are quick and both are worth doing on every quote, including ours.
- What if you find more damaged decking than expected?
- The rate is agreed in the quote before anybody knows the quantity, so the number is not a surprise. We photograph what we find as we go.
- Do you handle the permit?
- Yes, as contractor of record with the correct department for your address. Be cautious of anyone asking a homeowner to pull an owner-builder permit for work the contractor is doing.
Roofs we work on
Shingle Roofs
Asphalt shingle is what most of this coast was re-roofed with after 2004, which means a very large number of shingle roofs here started their service lives inside the same eighteen months.

Tile Roofs
On a tile roof the tile is a rain screen and the underlayment is the waterproofing. Tile outlives underlayment comfortably, so most tile roof work here is really underlayment work.

Metal Roofs
Metal genuinely lasts on this coast when it is specified and detailed properly. What decides that is rarely the panel. It is the fastener system, the coating and what happens at every edge and penetration.

Flat & Low Slope
Flat and low slope sections on this coast are very often over an addition, a Florida room or a carport enclosure. They fail differently from the main roof and they usually fail first.

Leak Diagnosis
Water gets in at one place and appears somewhere else entirely. Diagnosing that properly is the whole job, and it is the part most often skipped in favor of sealing whatever is nearest.

Deck & Underlayment
The visible roof covering gets all the attention. The deck it is fastened to and the underlayment over that are what decide whether the roof stays on and whether water gets in once it does not.

The 2005 Cohort
Frances and Jeanne put most of this coast under new roofs across 2005 and 2006. Those roofs did not age independently, and they are not going to finish independently either.

A Roof That Does Not Leak
The usual trigger for a roof replacement on this coast is not water in the house. It is a letter about the age of the roof, which is a genuinely uncomfortable position to be put in.

Where Roofs Fail
Uplift starts at perimeters and corners. Water gets in at penetrations and flashings. The large open field of the roof, which is what a quote is usually priced by, is the part least likely to be the problem.

An inspection, photographs of what we found, and a written scope. If the honest answer is that it can wait another season, that is the answer you will get.
